Just looking for advice on how to market myself or where to even start:

Out of college helped my Dad build his business from the ground up ($0 revenue) in the Veterinary Industry. Managed our Operations, Marketing, and Growth strategies. Business is profitable and now valued at $4.2 million now and it’s helped secure my parent’s retirement but now I want to start building a career for myself, I’m 27. Not looking to go to Vet School just to take over from my Dad.

Learned a lot being a “entrepreneur” about building and growing a business. I’m not really passionate in the long term for the veterinary industry.

I want to get into Product Management or even Project Management, specifically within tech/fintech and eventually with AI. Graduated with a degree in Neuroscience from college.

Any advice on where to start or what roles to apply to? Are my skills even relevant enough to the industry that companies would look at me?

I feel like it’s definitely a hard-pivot and might be a reach. I’m fairly adaptable and willing to learn, pursuing my SAFe Scrum Master certification right now.

YOE: 4
TC: 60K (I’d feel terrible asking for more when the man put me through college 😅)

Interesting path! Depending on what you did managing operations, marketing, growth, can see you getting a role in any of them. And then you can make an internal transfer into product.

Will be tough to do a direct transfer into product. Lots of candidates including those with prior experience.

Here’s an article to get you started: https://productlessons.substack.com/p/the-secret-to-getting-the-job-you

Haha thanks, yeah it’s been pretty unconventional path, but as Robert Frost put it, “I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

Thanks for the link to the article. I was thinking of applying to entry level product roles, like APM, as a possible avenue but I’ll consider an internal transfer.

APM is a viable path, but very competitive. Also half the class will be new grads, not sure if you’d want that
