What does comp look like for different levels / years of experience?
PM positions?
And what the fuck is the point all your communication is in mandarin and you communicate with the head office in mandarin. How do you expect anyone to do well here
all your communication is in mandarin and you communicate with the head office in mandarin -- Where is all that from? Did OP say that?
Dude they don't have a single non-mandarin speaking in the Bellevue office. He can confirm what I am saying
We do have non Chinese speakers here. The official office language is English. We can all speak English.
Would there be the option for a stipend for intensive Mandarin study?
How many, what is the ratio in Bellevue office
When does the LA office open????
Non mandarin speaking people, if you want to grow to senior level and not just stay at code monkey level, don’t go to mandarin heavy shops. As a leader you would need to develop trust with HQ otherwise you won’t get projects or some mandarin speaker will claim credit (unintended but...). Ability to speak same language is very important in gaining trust as well as fitting into culture.
People that communicate with HQ and the site leads. I don’t doubt your good intentions in recruiting English only speakers unless the HQ takes it as a priority nothing would change. English only speakers suffer.
Please op, I worked in a Chinese team at MICROSOFT and these guys kept me an outsider, I wouldn't come near a Chinese COMPANY. Watching them to to lunch every day and take a peek at me never extending an invite will always be a memory I'm fond of
Is this new? I was contacted by alibaba so many times and mandarin was always a must; speaking, reading, and writing. I have never worked for an Asia company. I feel they may squeeze every cent out they pay you
Most of the Alibaba code is in mandarin too
Seattle/Bellevue? No thanks!
Please ask your interviewers not to be focused on the way they have memorized an answer for their question. It is annoying as fuck when you can't even explore an idea And for fucks sake do not ask bit manipulation nonsense I feel you are wasting everyone's time and trying to show the government that you are trying to hire non Chinese folk
You can ask interviewers in the entire FAANG the same thing. Sorry, I am not sorry.
Whoa definitely don’t want to touch alibaba now
