Hi guys, Have you bought a used car from Hertz car sales or any other rental company. Do they stick to their no haggle price. What are positives and negatives of buying car from Rental company. Looking to buy Nissan Sentra or Honda or Toyota sedan cars.
I have just $10k budget being new grad, don’t want to go into debt. I am getting used Honda civic from 2012 models at this budget. I can go upto $13k. Are old models good as well?
Don’t get rental cars, definitely not a good decision. Did u consider leasing?
They should be fine yes. Personally a 2-3 year old car is what I’d go with, you’ve just started earning so I understand the apprehension. Don’t buy an absolutely shitty car or you’ll want to let it go within a year. And as a tech employee that 1 or 2k extra to get that new car will not hurt you. As a new grad your TC will increase surprisingly quickly. Looks like a 2015-2016 civic will be your sweet spot. They’re also refreshed versions so it’ll have nice creature comforts. Look for something like this https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=511442358&zip=94030&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D94030%26listingTypes%3DUSED%26sortBy%3Drelevance%26incremental%3Dall%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Don%26modelCodeList%3DCIVIC%26makeCodeList%3DHONDA%26searchRadius%3D50&listingTypes=USED&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0&modelCodeList=CIVIC&makeCodeList=HONDA&searchRadius=50&clickType=listing
Listen to Intuit. My dad knows about car so I would bring him with me. Bring someone you can trust/get a mechanic out. Get a 2/3/ hand car. Check on the road you might spot a car or two going sell. Leasing a good option for you if you just started. Insurance is a big cost if you are new driver (but if you can do under your parents’ plan that’d a big saving - if your parents drive). Just my two cents.
Rental cars are driven terribly but are well maintained. You roll the dice. Some have great luck.
Was in the same boat as you. Budget was 10k, went up to 12-13k and found a pool of civic/Accord with veryless miles on them (<20k) to choose from. Stay away from rental.
I have used Hertz car sales for my current car, works great so far. As some said earlier I advice you to take the car to a mechanic and check it before you buy it.
I rent Hertz cars regularly, DON'T buy one lol
I was in a similar position in the past - I leased a Honda Civic - payments were smaller - after the lease - I bought the same car. So you basically get to drive a new car with lower payments and at the end of the day get to buy it off after removing your lease payments from the total price after 3 years. Worked well for me so far.
Oh good god no.
People drive rental cars like they stole them. You should be able to find a decent priced vehicle through other dealers.

Ever wonder how a few of your coworkers got hired in the first place?
Don’t do it. You don’t know what’s happened with a rental car. Look patiently and find one that someone’s selling or from a dealer , take an auto mechanic along and get it inspected. Also don’t get a Sentra, under powered as hell. Accord or Civic are better bets. Just test drive it and you’ll say no to the Sentra, it’s that bad. Depending on how much you end up paying , a new civic might be pretty close to your budget, give it a look. From experience.
