I’ve been in the bay area for 10 years and i still hate it. i was home (Chicago) for the holidays and as usual, was made completely sick that I don’t live in Chicago. What good dev employers are in Chicago?
Citadel
What's your definition of high compensation?
Good question. I’m thinking second tier engineering corp or higher. MSFT, LinkedIn, etc. Would be curious to hear about third tier also.
Microsoft, AWS and Google have sales offices but not engineering (maybe Google does). The trading firms suggested are good ones
Uber Freight, Citadel, Jump Trading
Out of curiosity, what do you like about Chicago? Weather for starters is miserable.
Couldn’t care less about the weather. The culture is what’s important to me.
How is the culture in Chicago?
Groupon
How are things at Groupon going?
Not growing but still interesting work ..
Huge number of prop trading firms. Optiver, jump, citadel, Akuna, DRW, wolverine, belvedere, TMG, IMC, radix, old mission,
Rally Health
How is it? Interviewed with them, heavily considering their offer. 150k base and 150k equity (50/50)
Good company with a great mission and almost entirely new leadership. Going through growing pains but the future looks positive. That sounds like a good offer especially on the equity. SSE?
We don’t have eng out there
The Trade Desk is hiring engineers and engineering leadership in Chicago. Not sure about Chicago specifically, but in general comp is high (as are expections for contribution) -- very if you can be patient with equity. We're also about much more than that... DM me if you are interested in hearing more.
Accenture has a huge base there.
