    I’m going to be honest…. I don’t think you should take google L3 with 3 YOE as someone who did exactly that.

    Google needs a new level or something because lumping in new grads and 3 YOE people into the same bracket is really frustrating.

    It will most likely take you at least 2 years to get to L4. If you have an L4 equivalent offer elsewhere take that or ask your recruiter why you didn’t get considered for L4…. It’s usually because the recruiter didn’t even try for it and asked for L3 interviews based on what I’ve seen. I routinely with high performing 2+YOE candidates have to put down that I think it was a disservice to the candidate to ask for review at L3 level.

    • I would imagine for someone with industry experience, L3 to L4 should be quicker than 2 years, no? L3 to L4 in ~1.5 years doesn't sound too bad.

      That would be logical but not usually. See Google generally standardizes to its norms. So it has seen that normally first perf is CME and so it is actually harder to argue for EE than it is for someone who it isn’t their first perf. Similar with any two rating bump so the de facto standard is CME -> EE -> SEE x2 and promo. That’s 2 years.

      It’s possible but it’s made hard because Google says outliers rarely happen we must scrutinize them extra. If you are actually an outlier though it makes it really hard to advance faster than normal.
