Hi There, I was just wondering why Amazon’s hiring process is so fucked up. Is it because there is no hiring committee concept at Amazon? Companies like Google/Facebook have HC and they hire better candidates and we know they are the toughest to crack. tc 250 yoe 4 ps: currently not at juniper(in case you are judging), at one of the FAANGs. Thanks
I've interviewed at Amazon thrice and every time it felt like I was in a story-telling competition.
What did you find that's fucked up? In my experience it has made more sense for the people who interviewed the candidate to discuss their eligibility than a random group of people going off of interview notes.
Amazon interview is so fucked up, especially for non-sde roles. For such roles it centers around Jeff's school of thought. Some Amazonians even sound so orgasmic when they mention leadership principles. I think interview around LP is so fucked up and filters people with real technical talent out while it allows absolute bullshitters to prepare well for those common questions and sneak in. It is not amazing for SDE roles either, but comparatively better.
Agree with tparty! Also, pip rate is higher at Amazon
The Amazon hiring process is something like: hire everyone who can chug the LP koolaid, burn out folks with the ability to leave (so they actually do), and PIP the rest
True, I have seen lot of people getting pip’ed.
There is a hiring committee made up of one 1 person - the bar raiser.
Lol thats true. Your display name is funny 😆
Not only the hiring process the work culture too. I guess everything stems from their BS frugality LP. Why hire 10 people to do job of 10 when we can overclock 5 poor frustrated souls? Same is true for their recruitment staff that's why their recruiters are so shit and frustrated compared to other recruiters like those of Google.
I see, you worked at amazon before?
Lot of my friends do. I've interacted with their recruiters though who forgot to schedule future rounds twice after cancelling despite calling me themselves and telling me previous rounds went well. I've also interacted with recruiters from Google and the experience was much better.
I’ve interviewed twice with Amazon. The first time, as my friend was on the team I was gunning for, everyone wanted me on the team except the bar raiser. So, no offer. Second time, the job was offered to an internal candidate. The people I know who work there, whom I’ve worked with before, were either high performers with great EQ or bullies with high IQs who were miserable to work with. I’ve conceded that Amazon just isn’t a good fit for me.
How to detect the bully ones...?
