Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Has anyone created an LLC (or similar) while being on a visa. I guess incorporating outside the US works well too. Over the last few years, I built a tool for some niche hobby for myself and kept building it as a fun project. 6 months back, I opened it up for others too (thanks Reddit) and now it has roughly 10-20K active users and growing. Going by subreddit numbers, I might get to 100K users in near future. Currently I'm spending my own money to keep it up but soon it might get into non-negligible monthly spend. I'm thinking either to take patreon or premium features route to support the project, but don't think I could do that while on H1B. Is there a legal way to support the project? I was thinking registering an LLC and have a partner or freelancers work for it (because of visa restriction on earning money through hobby projects). Does anyone have any experience with similar situation.
I do not think its an issue as long as you are not employed by the LLC or if you earn money from it. Definitely, not a legal/immigration advice
Yeah
You can create and own the LLC but cannot be it's CEO. Better to involve an immigration attorney from the start.
you need a lawyer.
Be careful on this. If it becomes very successful, your current employer can challenge you for the IP if they can justify somehow you've used their asset to support your LLC. Reread the employment contract. This is why a lot of people quit to start their own gig instead of moonlighting on the side.
Tell us what it is!
Yeah, I'd love to make an anonymous tip to INS
Sorry, I would like to remain anonymous. @Intuit - I'm not earning any money from it. I built it for myself and let few others to use for free and it kind of took off unexpectedly.
