I’m a regular linux user. My online masters will require exams be done on windows or mac. I have wanted a macbook pro for a while now but have heard rumors that the next iterration may have a 16inch screen. Apple people- without saying anything specific that could get you in trouble, should i hold off for the next one or purchase now? Edit: TC:150k
I like my 13” inch. Smaller and effective. Bigger ain’t always better and it’s fucking heavier too 🧐 if you are gonna buy one look for reburbishdd on apple store.
I switched to a pixelbook and have never been happier

Yes
What does taking the exam entail?
Connecting to a third party proctor that specifically says it doesn’t support Linux. It’s an anti cheat thing
So the proctor serves up a web page that will only work in approved browser/platform combination, or the proctor actually runs a custom binary to test you?
Awesome thanks.
No comments from any Apple folks! Big brother is real.
It’s never a good idea to buy Apple products just before the next generation comes out. You’d be paying full price for an outdated product.
I would take a look at the Lenovo Carbon X1 Extreme. Run Linux in a VM if you want. Keep the windows preinstall through your class, then go Linux native when you’re done.
I’m actually using a carbon X1 for work and love it. No windows on it at the moment but that is an option I am considering.
My first MacBook Pro was 17" I hated downsizing to 15" but now I don't even notice. If you are mobile and want a lighter Mac to carry around, get the 15. If that extra inch is important for your work, then you should wait. But honestly I don't think it's that much of a difference.
I think the rumor is that the 16.5inch screen will fit in same form factor, just less bezel. I agree that any larger than current 15inch form is too much.
When I'm getting a new one I go for the top of the line, especially with RAM and it lasts me over 5 years. If you're like that, study your options because you'll be staring at that thing for years. If you change it every year or so, then it's not a big deal..
