Hoping to find a good developer to finish a mobile app prototype for me via a hackathon

Based in Seattle area. I’m thinking of posting an online hackathon challenge in which I will post a cash prize and students and developers can hack their own implementation of this mobile app and submit into the hackathon. Is this a smart way so I don’t have to regret paying labor for shitty developers?

Probably want to get them to sign some kind of contract giving you ownership of all the IP

You will want a lawyer to draft the terms and conditions of the IP transfer.

No skilled developer is gonnna just do some random contest for your business idea lmao fuck outta here. Do your due diligence and find a qualified engineer and pay up. If you can’t afford it get a business loan. Can’t do that save. But seriously?

Hackathons typically attract low-skilled and entry-level developers these days. There are exceptions but not many.
