Housing in LA

Nov 26, 2020 19 Comments

TLDR: Planning on moving and buying a house in the LA area and will be commuting to Culver City in a couple of months. Looking for decent/good schools for the kids and still a decent commute.

What are some ideas for cities where it is safe, reasonable prices (a plus would be appreciating market), and a reasonable commute!

Happy Thanksgiving!

SFH for under $1M you’ll probably be looking at the valley, which would be about an hour+ commute during rush hour. Otherwise you could get a 1-2br condo on the west side of LA (Culver, Brentwood, Century City, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica etc.) that are within a 30 min drive. Would not recommend areas south of Culver City for schools and safety, unless you go more than 45 mins.

Culver city itself is a nice area. Any areas that are within 5 miles from Culver City would probably be 30-45 min commute pre covid.

Are you looking for a SFH or condo?

Yea... You aren't going to find any house for a million with a good school system. You probably will want to buy a condo or townhouse

OP If you want a SFH on the west side (or close to it), you'll need to plan on spending 1.5m at a minimum. Even then, you'll be getting a house that's 900sqft. I lease a SFH on the west side that's ~1000sqft and the house is valued at ~$2m. You get to have the same argument all LA folks have with themselves: spend a shit load of cash and live close to work or move to the valley and have a hellish commute. Good luck my friend!

Why don’t you give yourselves sometime before making a decision to buy a house.
