How at all is Airbnb accountable for the halloween shooting?

Some human trash lied about needing to rent a property to escape from fire smoke, hosted a huge party, and then some other human trash came and shot the party up. How exactly are the homeowners/platform culpable for the actions of human garbage?

No more accountable than FB is for hosting political ads, but for some reason everyone wants them to be the election police. 🤷🏻‍♂️

To be fair, ads are a bit easier to vet

It’s all about the optics. Our brand cuts both ways now that it’s almost a verb. However, let’s focus on the fact that even though it receives widespread attention, why wasn’t the suspect caught; is it rumors of gang violence? Are the police more reluctant to touch those?

We are responsible for doing everything we can to stop violence on our platform. Someone used Airbnb to put a very dangerous situation in motion. We should and could have caught it before it got out of hand. Uber is responsible for things that happen to people in their cars. Same with houses. Like Brian says we are not in the vacation rental business, we are in the Trust business.

The question is liability. Should Facebook pay money to people who are assaulted in Facebook Live?

Airbnb homgbavcks Nov 13, 2019

Agree it’s not liable but it’s bad PR. Airbnb implemented instant bookings option to reduce the amount of “discrimination” on the platform but in the process took power away from hosts to cancel reservations from shady guests because it heavily penalized cancellations. If Airbnb empowered hosts to cancel shady bookings then you all would scream bloody murder that Airbnb hates black people. Can’t win these days.
