How bad is a 1 year gap?

I'm at 1 YOE and had to leave my previous job last year due to personal reasons. Recently have been applying to SWE roles and am experiencing a high rate of auto-rejections. I don't think my resume is lacking since I had a high rate of landing the first interview in college. I have a CS degree from a strong university (Stanford/Berkeley/Caltech) and worked at a leading HFT firm - which generally has much higher hiring standards than FAANG. I still get a ton of recruiter inmails daily from the quant space, but I get almost no interest from any tech companies. Anyone want to share some advice regarding employment gaps, industry changes, or both? TIA

Nobody cares tbh

Yeah. Nobody gives a crap, mate! Also tech company expectations are much different than those HFT firms

I'd assume it's because of your resume itself and not the year gap.

I had a one year gap. Only shitty companies asked questions assumably because they get shitty applicants. If asked, I said I went into full time immediately after college, lived with parents and saved as much as I could to go towards students loans, and then took a year off. A year off doesn't make you a bad dev.

Are you applying for positions explicitly for new grads? If not, there is a good chance you’re going to get auto rejected especially if you list your grad date.

- 1 year sabbatical (I troll on blind everyday)

You will be more than fine. Just be over prepared for the interviews.

hi op. which companiea have you applied?

Autorejection means not enough key words in your Rez. Get that white font out and throw some matching terms from that posting onto your document

I had a three year gap. No issues. I did career related work in that gap but nothing full time

Did you fill the gap on the resume somehow? Or was your timeline blank for the last 3 years?

I listed my consulting, and then under it listed the consulting work I did and for who. It helped that I was technically still in a graduate program. My Google recruiter did ask me to create a clearer timeline for hiring committee because it wasn't clear from the resume
