I’m a temp employee at Cisco. My manager let me go without notice and no severance with only 2 weeks pay, due to a personality conflict (my manager wants a yes woman). i have no savings, and am truly scared. im not incompetent or incapable. im really good at what i do. this hurts extra bad because its the worst time of year to get another job. any advice on how to get severance? im also in content marketing, if anyone knows of any jobs.
Is temp the same thing as a contractor?
Where are you located and what level role are you looking for? Are you open to Product Marketing, or are you strictly content? Happy to refer you. I just wrapped up a search and have many recruiters who are trying to get interviews in before the holidays.
I’m in south Florida (I was remote), but open to other locations. I’m definitely open to product marketing. I’d greatly appreciate the help!!! :)
Just pinged you! Let me know how I can help!
that’s good, I used to contract and getting let go means no severance
temp = no severance. temp = yes woman. don’t do temp
As a contractor you are likely out of luck. If you are direct, read your contracts and see if there is anything regarding notice or severance. If you're through an agency, check with the agency. If you are contractually owed notice or severance, you will have to find an employment attorney, but it won't be a quick resolution. The best option is probably to reach out to any other managers you've worked with to see if they are interested in hiring you before your scheduled exit.
Severance is for employees of which you were not one. I know this is harsh, but temps are not employees so you’ll have to file for unemployment.
You need to get unemployment benefits, and not get your hopes up on a severance. Severance is given at the company's discretion and is usually for employees who have been there for a while and have gotten laid off (not fired.) Unemployment benefits is for anyone who lost their job, no fault of their own. File for it today!
