I’m currently working in data analytics but not sure if I want to take the manager path or into an IC. I have the ability to code in a couple languages (more suited for DS) but wondering if I should go full on statistics and try to break in or do leetcode like everyone else says to do. Both will give me similar levels of job satisfaction, but wondering what’s easier to break in.
Leetcode is useful for swe and ds.
So I should I go by the marketability of the skillet?
What’s your current TC in analytics?
You're going to be able to earn more money in people management. And it's you're good at it, why not? If you're hesitant, don't lead.
I want to get better so that I can properly lead people around me. I work with extremely intelligent folks and I want to make sure I earn their respect even as they develop
That's fair... But too often our managers don't think like this, so again I say lead. We don't have enough leaders in tech that don't exclusively think of themselves.
SWE is a safer, longer term career than Data Scientist. SWE is harder to get into. Ten years from now, only the ML research scientist /applied scientist DS people will be well paid.
Same experience as you, OP. Glad you made this post 😊
Hey! Any update on this? We’re you able to pivot? I’m looking to now.
I am in the exact same situation. Not sure if I should go the swe or ds route
I think I’m above average as an analyst vs my peers but that may not be enough for me at current stage. I realize I need to learn and practice more skills, but would like to focus on one thing. Also been told people skills are my best trait which I hope helps.
