Working at amazon is a stressful undertaking. Employees are treated as machines. Leadership principles are used as a means to put people in line and micromanagement is rampant. Are most big tech cultures the same? Is google any different from amazon or microsoft?
Very similar to FB except FB is much more generous in perks.
And generous in handing out pips
I’m hearing this 2nd hand that people are down levelled and promotion is almost impossible in many cases. Probably because attrition isn’t high enough There must be a lot of deadwood in that place
Are you implying that the famously rigorous hiring committee gets it wrong often?? 😊
It's easy to get things wrong.. when you are the one making decisions but you never spoke to the candidate in the process... It's does not make much sense..
Down levelled at Google? Which is better than layoff or PIP if you ask me - generous!
Although i don't know how long one would last after down levelled..
FB = Amazon + Perks Google = FB + WLB
You gotta love Google then!
Google doesn’t PIP as quickly or as liberally as Amazon but it creates a secondary problem of people not fearing repercussions of their actions because nothing is going to happen to them. I’ve experienced apathy, bad attitudes, and pointy elbows with less incentive to get things done. Overall I like it better but Google is by no means perfect.
Thanks for the insight into the potential issues when people realize that there are little repercussions to your disagreeable behavior. How long were you at google?
4 years, left to avoid cliff
