How difficult is it for a Canadian to get US Visa sponsorship for marketing jobs?
GF is getting a degree in marketing and wants to come to the states post-grad. Has a lot of experience and would have no problem passing interviews, but how open are companies to sponsoring visas for these jobs?
It’s hard. People used to come in under the “economist” designation for TN, but the USCIS put out a memo restricting that category in January, and specifically excluding marketing from it. The only real option is to come in under H1B, which is a lottery.
Check the list of NAFTA eligible jobs. Marketing isn’t on it, so people were abusing “economist”. I think the intent of the memo was to purposely exclude marketing altogether. You can find it on the DHS web site. It doesn’t matter the industry for the job, her education and job need to match one of the NAFTA categories.

Thanks for the info! Does the TN restriction exclude marketing in the tech world s.a. growth or pmm positions too?
