Does your company have a program to transfer to a different office for instance to go abroad ?
We have programs for short term stints at other teams (3 months, 6 months, a year) and also formal programs if you wanted to permanently change offices. A lot of people take advantage of them.
Ah that is quite cool. I think formal programs for transfers just make it easier. It is even better if they are well seen and perceived in the banks
I think the most important thing is that whoever is a stakeholder in making that decision or knows those vacancies, that's important. Many global firms now allow the opportunity to work abroad for different lengths of time.
At A&M it is relatively easy to transfer offices as long as you have been around a few years and are doing good work. The firm is less excited about entertaining the idea if you are a new hire or you aren't doing well. Given that on the consulting side we are on the road every week geographic location doesn't matter too much. I have seen a fair number of folks transfer offices without issue. It is a lot harder to try and transfer abroad because you want to spend time in Europe. If you have a logical argument it is possible, but have seen people that want to make this transfer struggle.
I believe we do at my firm but it would be a temporary (6 month?) transfer
