Over the past 25 years i have rhe opportunity to work for and with the largest companies in the world, ebay google msft amzn etc., but never finished my undergrad degree. It has shut me out of some jobs and some people have looked down at me. I never really cared and done prett well over the last 15 years typically making well over 100k. But now into my 50s I'm thinking about going back just to finished. How many of you have gone back and has it made a difference? My next job will probably put me into the 300 to 400k tc so dont think it will impact the money i can make.
What difference are you looking for
Occasionally i get passed over for a role or two. I know I'll never get the money back so for me is just checking a box.
29yo, i make 350-400 a year and I never finished mine. Really depends on your role. Tech it doesn’t matter, traditional roles, probably more. Also depends a lot on your recruiter and manager, I don’t look at education, it’s seldom representative of a persons ability.
Never finished my degree (studied chemistry), self-thought engineer with startup experience (co-founder) with decent salary. About 6-7 years of professional engineering experience. Now I’m trying to play with the big boys, recently got a good offer with FB and interviewing in 3 days with Google Zurich for an EM position. I think I’m doing alright and not having a degree has not ruined my life ;)
If you can admit to yourself it is for the satisfaction at this point and not just for the money, it can be rewarding to go back. If you have to put a dollar figure on it, it’s a mistake. You should expect it to be a net negative financially versus just working, at your level.
Have received offers across the board FANG and have worked at other tech companies. Degree has never once been an issue. They care about past performance and future potential. When you have a track record, that is what they look at.
It seems between the big companies only Microsoft has hard degree requirements.
