It seems like being a Product Manager is not easy at all. If anything you should have been lucky enough to get selected right out of college or you should move up within the company. What if you havent worked at that company but want to be a Pm? Is product manager even an attractive career as they make it to be? I'm honestly getting a little demotivated :(
It’s very hard to get a PM job especially if you are not a new graduate or no prior PM experience. But once you get it, it’s rewarding in its own way where you get to understand customers problems first hand. If you were an engineer before, you will miss system designing and building part after becoming a PM. What industry are you focusing on for a PM role?
I did my engineering 8 months ago, and I'm less than a year after graduation so I guess I still am qualified for the new grad roles. I want to get into tech products. I definitely will not miss coding :P

I think one problem with becoming a PM is there are fewer openings compared to tech engineering. And once you become a PM, you will feel pigeonholed in your area. Becoming a Tech PM is tough but don’t lose hope. It’s hard to plan a career.
Dude I literally had a 6 month PM rotation at YouTube and still had to send over 300 applications to land a role. It’s hard out there
You could consider going into product marketing management and transitioning over as PMs and PMMs work very closely. It may be an easier path.
Depends on the company. PMM’s aren’t considered to have great product sense at a lot of places
Yeah, that’s valid, definitely depends. But in some places, ie Facebook, PMMs are expected to drive market research and inbound feedback to help inform roadmaps.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
its very hard to get hired as a pm if you have no pm experience. Its much easier to get an internal transfer to a jr pm role then jump ship. Doesnt ey have a digital pm team? Its a good career if you want to be paid well but dont want to be a dev
I did coding in my undergrad so I'm trying to leverage that to move out. I had no idea there was a digital pm team here! I'll ask around. How can I become a junior pm at a different company? What do I need to be qualified?
having a cs degree is a big plus, that gets you some credibility. Have you considered taking any pm courses? general assembly? That can demonstrate that youre serious
