How do TC packages change after IPO?

For Airbnb, Doordash, etc, what happens to comp packages for people who are being hired immediately post IPO? Without the potential value of options/RSUs, does the cash comp go up? Does TC remain the same with the mix changing? #tech #tc #ipo #comp

  • You are usually priced at offer date. They have cookie cutter packages at hiring levels where you get for example 200k salary with $800k in RSUs that vest over 4 years and are priced at price around when you signed offer or join date. Since the IPO surged you're kinda screwed if you sign up now. If the stock tanks, then the company often makes up for it with higher refreshers or regreenings; it all depends on external market factors and attrition rates

    Most companies don’t give you another initial grant at your cliff so you will see a big dip in TC after 4 years
