I sometimes fail to understand the importance of the website beside it being a corporate directory. I don't see the point of opening the website unless I am doing job searching. Even then, I will probably ask a friend/former colleague to give me internal referral rather than apply on the platform.
How do you guys use it otherwise ?

  • I’ve found my last 3 jobs at LinkedIn (and I now work at LinkedIn)

I’ve never had much luck using Indeed or Monster for jobs. Getting a referral was difficult as I was new to the industry and didn’t go to college. (Didn’t have much of a professional network)

  • LinkedIn is much more than a job search site, marketing and advertising services make a huge impact, further it lets you keep a tap on what's going on with your friends and colleagues work life, promotions infact any radical shift in your industry as a whole.

  • I’ve gotten several job offers thru LinkedIn. I’m changing jobs this week and credit LinkedIn with how I was able to land a role at a pretty cool/top tier tech company

Idem. I don’t have LinkedIn, so does it make sense to create a profile given the fact I’m not searching for a new job?

I use it so Recruiters can see additional information about me with awards, volunteer work I’ve done, companies’ profiles I’ve worked for, and show them how many people can vouch for me for the skills I have listed on my profile.
