I'm going to start seeing a therapist to talk about my messed up childhood and about my messed emotional health. I've tried therapy before when I was in college; but I guess because I prioritized study too much and always ended up not showing up in my therapy sessions. I should also admit that I was scared if therapy sessions would trigger me to underperform in college. (There was a long time in my early days in college when I was explicitly depressed and just fucked up my grades.)
Getting stuck in the pandemic is forcing me to reflect on my life and my needs to see a therapist (I can't just use tinder hookups etc to fill my weekend schedule outside of work anymore). I'm looking forward to how my mental/emotional state could improve through therapy, but I'm also a bit concerned whether emotions and thoughts triggered by my upcoming therapy sessions would affect my working performance. (It's a harsh reality that therapy is $$$ lol and I do value my professional prospects very much)
Any tips/advice from people who've seen a therapist to figure out issues while working?
