Male, really hate shopping for clothes. It’s boring as hell and nondeterministic on how long it will take. But I’m at the back half of my twenties and kind of over the daily dirty hoodie and jeans thing. Only thing is- I really like a plain and timeless style. Really not a fan of trendy effeminate looks which are everywhere. What do you do for clothes? Any feedback on those mail order services like Stitch Fix?
Nordstrom has a stitch fix like service, Trunk Club, that my husband likes.
Trunk club, it's pretty good
Oh nice, will look. Can I just “rent” the clothes and send everything back that I don’t keep?
Check out UNIQLO.
This is like exclusively what I do now. It’s the only reason I’m allowed at the office. Love that all their stuff is plain and subtle. But.. I only shop when I absolutely have to. I hate spending 2 weeks buying and returning shit. Or just keeping clothes I don’t wear..
Not trying to be a racist, but I found UNIQLO really fit well only for Asian people, because clothes are tailored to Asian physique. I recommend BR or J.Crews if you are not an Asian. Simple clothes.
I follow a simple process: (1) go to the outlet mall and (2) find clothes on the clearance rack that fit. I get banger deals at Banana Republic, J Crew, and other retailers that have a classic and professional look. Good luck!
Outlet stores used to be just that, an outlet for the store’s old inventory. Now they are just more cheaply made versions of their styles. If you don’t mind clothes that are cheaply made and don’t last, outlet stores are OK, but I find that spending a little more on nicer stuff yields clothes that last a lot longer.
Unless things have changed in the past years, all those clothes fit “standard” more than fitted. Department stores seem to be stuck in the 90s

Stitchfix is awesome. I’ve done 3 shipments so far and most of them are great. Saves a lot of time and effort.
Stitchfix isn’t the cheapest, but if you like the clothes and they fit your body style it’s extremely convenient and after a few shipments starts to eliminate the need to think about clothes that much. The stuff they send seems to always work well together for me. I am color blind and I used to always have my wife help me with the “does this match?” game, but I’m able to use the outfits they send with relative ease. Average shipment for me (smart casual clothes) is typically on the order of $250 which is about $50 per item.
What’s the cost if you send everything back? Is that an option?
The default setup is a $20 “styling” fee per shipment. That $20 is applied to whatever you buy, but they keep it if you send everything back. Now they have a $50 “style pass” that you pay once (and still applies to clothes you buy) but it’s good for a year of shipments. You can send the clothes back if you don’t like them and it doesn’t cost you. They also give you a discount if you buy everything in a shipment, so I’ve definitely bought stuff I didn’t particularly like because it was cheaper than not buying it. Strange, but that’s just how it works out sometimes.
