My manager and I are both L6, but he is kind of a talker and I'm quiet. Prob not his intention but he talks about the work I did in meetings and I don't get the chance to talk much. Skip manager thinks I'm too quiet in important meetings Any advice for me to open up the space and talk about MY work? Tried to talk to manager but I'm yet to see the outcome of the feedback
Please do the right thing before we respond today to you
I'm being watched for promotion this quarter, so it can't wait
I am in a similar boat, would like to see what advices folks have.
Try interrupting him more often? Or simply say "Heres my view on this: ..." This sounds like an assertiveness issue. Play the game
Okay I think I can do that. Sorry it's not obvious to me. I pay too much attention to what others are saying and forget about what I wanted to say
It doesn't come naturally to agreeable people, who dont like conflict. That's OK, you can learn to do it
Maybe try to correct your manager next time he misrepresents something, then you can elaborate more on details. Both the audience and your manager might get the hint.
Yes, correcting your manager in front of others, especially his boss, is solid advice....if you dont have the willpower to quit a job you hate and need a push out the door
Try to add something during the meetings since it is your work. Talking to your mgr should normally work.
How did you get to L6 without knowing how to speak up in meetings?
Ask my previous boss who let me talk in meetings and wrote my promo doc
Just tell you manager know in your next 1:1 you would appreciate it if he let you talk about your work. Chances are he’s just unconscious that this is making you uncomfortable.
I would start with a skip manager 1:1s have chats with him/her on a regular basis.
