One of my coworker is notorious for not working. I understand that he is more experienced (in his 40s) and has not been given the kinda promotions that he likes. He still holds title similar to me as an engineer. He doesn't like the fact that company leadership is bringing in managers/directors younger than him. Partly company also is not good at rewarding employees with proper incentives. But promotions never will happen when one rarely codes or never produces results. Atleast, one should feel guilty enough to work for the salary that they are paid at the moment. Best of all, he watches Youtube/movies secretly in the office all the time. He pretends that he's working and throws shit work at me asking me to fix random aesthetic features invented over gut feeling just so he can continue watching movies. How would you navigate such weird scenarios? I personally don't like throwing someone under the bus and never will. I gave respect for this person just coz he's elder than me. But he keeps feeding on my work and thriving on it by doing nothing. I am just amazed by the extent to which someone creates distractions just so they can watch damn movies at work đ TC: 120k Yoe: 4
Time to jump off the ship
Sounds like he's figured out how to live his dream. How will you live yours?
Donât encourage people stealing company time
At this rate, I feel I am gonna jump off the ship soon. But I feel mindblown. I am honestly trying to understand how can one person feel no guilt....and continue to stay so for more than a year? Trying to understand how to motivate such ppl incase I encounter similar characters in future.
There are people who work hard all day to steal the privacy of their users, or to otherwise harm their users. They're the ones who should feel guilty. This guy's manager obviously has no clue, but at the end of the day it's a little unfair and hurts the company's bottom line .2 percent. Oh, well.
It's against the rules to watch youtube and movies at work? Just cuz video is playing doesn't mean he's not working
Nope. I am not even exaggerating. Headphones on, video fullscreen on. Nothing else. Straight face to the movies the entire day except during lunch. He has coded <100 lines of code in the past several months
Damn đŹđŹ. Little different situation đ
You guys hiring? I wanna get paid to not work too.

Sounds like you are jealous.
Haha, 5% jealousy 95% annoyance caused to me. So, it's more about annoyance that I am facing bcoz of the person not working.
Why do you care? You take of your own.
Yeah but who does everyone go to when sh!t hits the fan? He might be your chief shoveler
