For example you're Lead MTS at Salesforce (which is senior level at most other companies). Do you write lead dev/tech lead/etc. in your resume/LinkedIn profile? Or just senior? TC: 90K, YoE: 7
Use the title which companies give you. If there is a grade inflation for certain classes you take in college, are you going to say an A in this class is equivalent to a B in another class?
Call yourself what the company called you; that's what they will answer with in a background check phone call.
Title instead of comp, that's nice..
ALWAYS use the actual job title. Let them sort out what they need (level mapping) to sort out. Your resume should be a factual narrative of your work experience.
Some people got interviews for real VP roles after being vice president (L6) at banks š
VP at some banks is like L5 which is senior eng There are SVP which are IC in banks and donāt manage any people/teams lol
Use the titles as in your employment records/docs in the resume. You may tell them about the title mapping vis-a-vis other cos in your conversation. Cos/HR have a fair idea of job levels across cos.
So many votes for the inflated title but where are they in these comments?
Sticking to the titles the companies you worked at gave you makes like easy when it comes to employment verification. Iām one of those who voted for āinflated titlesā.
I write "Software Engineer" for all job in my resume because I was downleveled.
What about the other way around? For example at Google an L7 PM is a sr.PM and can technically be a director at amazon.
will Google say you were a director when amazon does a background check?
Google senior PM wonāt be a director at Amazon except for some exceptional cases.
Commenting for better reach.
