I considered Maserati a while back, but as much as Maserati design looks nice, the car itself and interior is kind of meh. Much better off with a higher end Bmw or Mercedes.
Maserati is a niche brand that has to speak to you, and you have to overcome its rather obvious downfalls. They're slowly upgrading their product, however.. They've just hired a new Head of Maserati and a top guy from Ferrari.
They're upgrading their plant in Modena, canceling the Gran Turismo and committed to building a 'New Car', which is suspected to be an Alfieri. Refreshers on Ghibli/Quattroporte are coming in a few years (this is Italian time, so probably 2024 lol)
Both are amazing car brands. I have a BMW and I have driven Audi for a while. I felt I had a much better driving experience with BMW but Audi had much better interiors.
Both are quite expensive to own especially after the initial warranty runs out.
From anecdotal experience Maintainence is expensive for both but more for Audi than Beemers. However one thing that sucks for beemers is run flat tires .. if I get a flat tire I can get it fixed $30 but in run flats you need a tire replaced ($300 easy )
1.5 K is too much in my opinion, but yes it’s more peace of mind. I did not take the insurance but it pinches every time a flat happened: 3-4 times in last 4-5 years with total cost of around 1400
No it’s not direct. For bmw even numbers are 2 door and odd numbers are sedan ( for the most part) 2 series is closest to a3 size wise; 3 and 4 series compare to a4 and a5 respectively and then the 5 series is most similar to the a7 (pretty sure they don’t make a6 anymore)
Really it’s more nuanced than that but at a high level
Got it, thanks! Also, do you know when the models were upgraded for bmw? I know for audi, 2016-present is almost same model with minor feature addition.
They rotate through as far as new models are concerned so it really depends on which model you’re interested in. Based on your expected spend I would look at a3 if you want as new as possible or a4/3 series but then you’re gonna end up looking at 2014ish model years that are out of their warranty periods

BMW if you enjoy driving; Audi if you enjoy comfort.
Neither if you aren’t willing to pay for extended warranty bc when they break it won’t be cheap
BMW 3 and 4 are around the same, just that 4 is coupe. 5 is a larger car that’s one tier above, with 6 being the coupe model for it.
Not too sure about Audi.
