Let's say I'm making 150k and get promoted to SDE2, where my expected comp is 170-180k. If amazon gives me stocks to hit my target comp, does the new grant start vesting immediately so my current comp will be in that range, or is there a delay before the new grant starts vesting?
The promotion pushes your total compensation up, but you won't see any stock grants you receive on promotion until at least 2 years later
So if I get a 10k base increase and 20k stocks more per year, I would be stuck at 160k until 2 years later? Are you sure the new grants don't vest over 2 years?
Yes, you would be stuck at 160k until 1 or 2 years later (depending on when your new hire RSU grant expires). The idea is that the new hire grant is supplementary to your TC - so you may not get new grants until after your first 4 years, which is why my promotion grant isn't vesting until my 4th year. And yes, I'm sure it doesn't vest over two years - TC windows are calculated with the current year and next two years in mind.
Wow....so you get promoted and have no immediate increase in what you make? That means you'll be underpaid for like 2 years.
Welcome to Amazon. You have to be doing the job for a while before you get paid accordingly 😁
Very little. I got 10 shares and 3k
Zero comp increase with promo
