We just came out of a recession and might soon go into another, how does one grow a company against all odds- society doesn’t really see design as a lucrative job, local companies never take you as serious, and would underprice the whole industry, infrastructure is terrible, it costs so much to run a company in Nigeria. And seeking for clients out of Nigeria is also hard because of the negative impression of the country, especially over the internet.
Ask the Nigerian prince, he has a fortune to give away!
Move?
I think that will be my last resort
Just read an article about how the gold mines are blowing up over there right now. Use some funding to buy some land parcels. Use the gold that's mined to continue funding your company
Get to know the design community there, I think Lagos has a decent one
Start with helping out the Nigerian prince craft better emails, brand etc.
I believe these emails are deliberately of low quality as some sort of filter.
The xenophobia on this thread is (un) surprising
I want to start a farm business in dessert but have no money. Help me plz
And it comes from the West Coast. No surprise.
Send out spam emails to millions of people with your plight asking them to send money to the Bank of Nigeria.
This sounds very interesting, I'd like to hear more about what you're thinking. What's your current financial situation? (don't have to be too specific) Starting companies anywhere, for any industry, is going to be rooted in good ideas, but more importantly in capital.
It’s either you’re a scruffy freelancer or you’re an advertising agency. There are very few solid design companies out here, and ironically, there are a lot of small and medium scale businesses, but the way the landscape is setup, capital is needed if not no one will take you serious -just like the scruffy freelancers... I’ve been bootstrapping since 2015, and it’s getting harder and harder to scale, especially if you want to keep the business creative without losing your soul, time and conscience just to make more bucks. I’m also personally involved in growing the design community out here, and the challenges are very relatable with a lot of peeps down here.
Do you basically only do design work, or do you have another job for money?

Would you accept a 10% salary cut for a 40% reduction in your work hours?
A lot of networking. A lot businesses in Nigeria is about who you know. Depends on what industry you are looking to design for - schools, businesses etc. Going to shake hands and meet the heads of the organizations will be crucial. It will also be hard to run a business in Nigeria from abroad.
