How does vesting work ? Why is it this difficult ?

Joined my current company on Jan 25th with yearly vesting schedule and fidelity shows vesting date of March 10th. (Could this be because the stock committee approved the stocks on March 10th of that year when i joined ?) Now i have an offer with another pre-ipo company where the vesting starts on 14th day of the third month of each quarter. i.e March 14th, followed by June 14th... I cannot leave my stock grant in current company which shows vesting day of March 10th and cannot let the new company decide my strike price in the next quarter after funding round which is going to happen in April. What should i do ? If i leave now will i still get my stock grant for the year since i joined on Jan 25th ?

If you joined a company on Jan 25th, you probably have a vesting cliff of one year. Nothing vests before then so if you’re planning to move in a few months anyway, just move now.

But the vesting date showed in fidelity is March 10th. I am not sure if I leave now, whether i will get the stocks ?

Read your contract.

^ This. Some companies vest yearly, some quarterly, some monthly. It will depend on your contract. Typically, if you leave before the vest date, you forfeit unvested stock.

My vesting schedule is yearly

Then you won’t get any equity until you’ve been there for at least a year.

A year from joining date or vesting start date ?
