How early can I move to Seattle for new Microsoft job?

Mar 9 12 Comments

I recently signed my Microsoft offer, I want to see when did others move to their Microsoft location?

I’m moving from the east coast. Also I’m a new grad SWE. For additional context, my recruiter wants me to chat with my relocation consultant, but she has not contacted me yet.

This post is for Microsoft employees

If you're taking their all-inclusive relocation package, you'll have to wait for what they tell you. Otherwise I'd get out there as quickly as possible to have more time to settle in and see the city you'll be living for the near future.

    • I will add that finding an apartment in one weekend is a bit stressful versus having more time to sort it out, but your first apt will prob be a temporary one anyway as you figure out more of the districts, what areas you like / don't like, etc your first year here.

  • You gotta wait for them to tell you. There are different reimbursement options you can use. You can either let a moving company take care of you (paid by msft), or do it on your own and take it with your first paycheck.

Sidenote: Seattle rent goes up if you lease in the summer-august iirc so be careful with that.

  • You said you are a new grad. Don’t think you have stuffs worth it. You can easily furnish you room in 500$. Car shipping gonna take 1500$ if it’s not a costly one.
