Most of the Amazon recruiters I spoke with says that it is easy to switch teams from day 1 if you I don’t like the team I have been recruited for. How true is that ?
I've seen it happen, so it's at least not impossible, but ymmv
Thanks. Does it involve going through yet another interview loop. Or is it as easy as getting into other teams which you are interested in
Internal transfer has a mini loop, but sometimes they are pretty lightweight. Depends on the hiring manager and how well he/she knows you.
The interview process for moving teams is very rigorous. The only advantage is that you won't have to go through bar-raiser.
True for tech teams for L4 and up. I've heard some business teams (legal, finance, etc) try to enforce an 18 minimum tenure, even though if you ask HR there is no such policy. I'm a manager on IT side and I've had SDE 1 (L4) be assigned to my team then move in the first week they joined the company. tl;dr: If you have any problems, just let Amazon HR know. Policy is that there is no minimum tenure.
Thanks. It is for tech teams. SDE1
Ah you'll be fine then. The only obstacle is finding an internal team that wants you, and most teams run lean so you'll be ok. I'd suggest approaching teams who had people on your hiring loop since those guys already know you and probably like you, since you got hired!
That’s a good idea. Thanks.
Yes, it’s true.. I changed teams after 3 months of joining amazon. And for new joinees I believe most teams take interview loop as new manager would not have any performance feedback. I had 3 rounds of interview in new team.
Thanks. I assumed that the interview feedback would have been shared with the new manager.
Yes, in my case interview feedback was shared with new manager . Even then I had loop. New manager mentioned tht since I did not have performance feedback they want to go with loop. I had 2 coding rounds and 1 informal/ behavioral with skip level. I m l5 sde.
It's easy. You will have to go through a small interview loop and convince the new team that you are good and have a genuine reason to move
I moved twice in a year. Interviewed both times. Stellar feedback helped both times.
True. Very easy to change if you have good perf review
I changed in a few months without any interview.
So true it hurts
