How good (industry recognize) coursera (similar) certifications ?

How great industry accepts coursera courses ?

more context: A management guy, want to add data science to skill set. coursera seems cheap best for me now completely online 6-8 weeks time. how it's valued in industry help me to determine alternative which is most recognized

  • The industry generally values output, not input. It doesn't matter how you learn new skills, it matters that you deliver results.

    That's not to say they aren't great courses, and may help you learn a lot and in turn find a new job.

    ... But you certainly won't find a job because of them.

      Agree. I learned a lot in the Johns Hopkins data science series through Coursera worth the effort if you're new to data science, but it's not like an MS. It's also a little dated. You don't have to do all the courses if you don't sign up for the certificate.

  • Nobody really cares about certifications on a resume unless you are applying for an entry level job. Great resumes stand out not for the certifications listed, but instead because of clear writing, good use of white space, a clear history of results, and healthy growth in responsibility over time. Resumes that are loaded with certifications demonstrate a person values pedigree instead of results, which is usually a red flag.

    Agree your point but when I apply for a data science or related position they won't have opportunity to check my skills and only my resume...so this q.
