Hi Guys, How do you weigh Uber with say Microsoft when it comes to good work and wlb. My wife got an offer from Uber and MS and we might plan a kid in 1-2 years. She is interested with Uber as tech might be good in that. Pay is almost the same around 80L for 6 YOE. How different will it be for working mothers who are career driven to have a job at Uber and raise kid compared to MS. If you guys can help with your or known experiences with specifics that will help. Looking at details of benefits and culture instead of general "wlb is better in MS". I am pushing for MS(for same reason) but she wants to join Uber. After 1-2 years when we have kid and maternity and other things surface, we don't want to regret the decision as she may not be able to switch for few years. #uber #microsoft
How come ms giving 80 at 6 yoe? Is she getting L64?
She is hired for L63. MS is around 70 TC i guess.
Whats the base at MS & Uber?
Uber: Microsoft WLB is Hell: Heaven. Microsoft is heaven. And for same TC, it makes no sense. I would consider uber only if offered at least 30% more.
Why is Uber WLB hell? Do managers make it or the culture is fast paced? Can you help me understand?
Managers make it hell, of course. And there are some donkeys which work 18x7. (Almost all hours except sleeping)
OP. Tc is okay (by okay, I mean these are good numbers. L63 with 70Tc for 6yoe is particularly impressive btw) but your concern is correct. wlb wise, M will always be better than U (barring Azure) but then I am sure U’l have some teams with wlb better than worst of M. Think of M’s 0365 teams or anything with the word E+D in it. These are typically pegged as Wlb safe houses. Just need to identify similar safe houses in U. From a career trajectory perspective, L4 at U will be good for learning and growing to L5A (should be within 2years)
I would recommend joining Uber as career wise I feel it would be better. I think if you are planning a child after 1-2 years, she might be well settled in here and should have a good WLB. Also, in case if the work is hectic in her team, she can try switching teams or in the worst case she can switch company after paternity leave. PS: I have seen working moms in Uber and if you are clear with your manager you can work at flexible time apart from scheduled meetings.
wlb balance is shit in Uber, but you will have 4 months maternity leave. Beyond, that if she is okay with working some long hours then its should be fine.
Its all about the experience and the personal drive to grow faster. If you want to take your growth slowly then you can have a good wlb.
So can she choose to take up less work if needed? or culture does not encourage people to slack? Also, how is the rating process ?
Sounds like your wife is already made up her mind. Why else would she take the same salary for double the workload when so many are telling her not to?
+1. 1.5x work though. Not 2x.
Good question. Can you help us know your or your wife's previous company and tc? If she can crack ms and u why not try for G?
I don't see what's wrong with the question. Fair question, isn't it?
I obviously do not agree with you. Hence my original comment.
