(Just skip to the poll if you don’t want to hear why I’m curious) . . I currently work primarily on AR development at a tiny (~10 employees) startup with healthy contracts mostly in the military sector that I believe have great opportunity. Over the last 2 years since graduating, I’ve received offers from other government entities that I turned down mostly because of either comp, WLB, or not wanting to deal with gov politics (used to work at NASA during and right after college, left because of constantly changing agendas). Only recently however, have I received a MAANG offer that was notably higher than my current package (110k base - 220k base, tough to compare stock at startup given volatility but they’re both generous). After a lot of thought I turned it down. I absolutely love what I do now, have good job security for as small of a startup I’m in, and leadership gives me full freedom to travel the world and do whatever I want in my life as long as I accomplish my tasks and attend the minimal meetings I have. The oddest part though, is that I’ve always dreamed of working in the valley for a MAANG company and it’s been my primary source of motivation. Now that I’ve turned it down, it’s a very odd feeling to not be able to think of a place I’d rather be than where I’m at. I say all this (and thanks for sticking with me) to ask: How satisfied do you currently feel at not just your job, but your life in general? If you’re at a large tech giant, do you think you feel happier than you would at a slightly lower paying job with less stress and more freedom to do what you love with who you love? I genuinely am curious, as while I know there are those who have a perfect balance of fulfillment, comp, and time to spend it, there are many others I see who have everything on paper but for one reason or another aren’t enjoying their life. TC: 110 base, 80k annual equity (at last valuation, but minimal liquidation opportunities for a while) #tech #mentalhealth #faang
Could be better could be worse. Just trying to improve each day and staying grateful 😇
Where do you work
Being happy doesn’t have to mean you want to just sit where you are. Im happy but im still moving towards goals.
Life is good till I get bored, usually after 2-3 years. I chase new challenges, the TC is an added benefit.
