One of my Amazon friends was PIPed recently. Despite multiple requests to manager to delay PIP progress due to a pregnant wife (3rd trimester), my friend was let go. Poor guy had to exit the country along with his pregnant wife as he would have violated his H1B visa norms. I don’t think Big 4 culture is as ruthless as Amazon.
L4 people are pipped at 15-20% and L5 people are pipped at 5-10%.
PIP at Amazon is not performance driven. It's entirely political. And yes most teams have good wlb.
The issue with PIP is that managers are required not to tell their employees they are underperforming because if they do then the dude changes team and it's important for the manager to save his LE till the final talent Review after which he will surprise his low performer with a pip
