Enraged that kids prefer KPop to Bollywood. Installed cams in their rooms.
I know it's hard to predict such things but being a giant, how is Microsoft in handling recession? How did it do in past recessions? Did it end up doing a lot of layoffs?
MSFT should be fine. They are one of the most diversified large tech companies. Also it is one of the largest enterprise-focused companies and have multi year contracts with enterprises. For employees however, expect layoffs. During 2009 economy melt down, msft laid off a ton of people although it wasn’t really losing $ but bad economy was a good excuse to trim excessive fat in the company. How i know? I was there, but my team got lucky and didn’t get cut
I worked at Microsoft during the 01 and 08 recession. They did fine. Cut a few perks, fired contractors, got zero raises and bonuses those years.
08 msft did a big layoff, cut few thousand FTEs IIRC.
it hasn't declared bankruptcy yet, so 100%
Microsoft as a company will be fine; they're well-diversified and have a lot of well-heeled and reliable customers. However, as others have pointed out, the legendary WLB is mostly due to overstaffing. They've historically been aggressive about layoffs in leaner markets (and half of those seem to migrate over to Amazon to secure a seat on the PIP train).
The WLB reputation bothers me. I’m in a newer org that runs very lean and I like it that way. Where is all this fat I keep hearing about? Azure? Office?
I hear you. I have a couple friends in core Azure (the cloud groups going head-to-head with AWS) who are working their asses off. I imagine the bulk of the WLB mystique comes from legacy orgs that are still producing revenue with limited competitive pressure, and/or tenured people who know how to work the system (my WLB at Amazon actually improved the longer I was there for exactly that reason).
Exactly! Many on my team work from 10 to 7-8pm. Don't get where this excessive fat and heavenly WLB is from. I am in the Cloud+AI org.
it hasn't gone bankrupt yet, so 100% successful
Look at two key points. 1 they low ball because they know they dont really need u 2 a lot of ppl say wlb is so good its almost no work at all. Means theres a lot of fat.
Nailed it. Who would know this better than IBM 😜
