Amazon hires the dumbest “engineers” on the planet, the ones who can’t get offers from any other companies.

With such a low hiring bar, how is amazon a successful company?

Is it just because the high management levels like directors, VPs, etc, are smart, so it doesn’t matter how bad the engineers are?

    Don’t think hiring bar is low. But I give kudos to JB on being able to tell the story to wall street and continue stock price climb. Only Amazon can get away with making 5-8B profit a year and still be valued at 800B.

    I wrote this answer on some other question. But the reality the secret of Amazon's success is nothing other than pure customer satisfaction. This doesn't need very high tech and cool stuff to pull off. But more of understanding the customer and making the customer believe that he doesn't have to worry about anything else when dealing with Amazon. The customer doesn't have to worry about quality, lost shipments, payment being misused etc.

    I think this is a very important quality that other companies should learn. Listen to the customer.

    first, Amazon does have lower bar than other companies. However, that does not suggest Amazon does not have smart engineers. Self driven engineers are considered assets everywhere regardless what environment they are staying. Second, good engineers do not result in good products. good products require business vision. Engineers are engine of the car. It matters more who is steering the wheel. My two cents
