I’m an SDE2 working on the retail side, and thinking of moving to AWS. My job is s**t. It’s easy, and not challenging enough. I come in office 9:30 every day, and leave by 4:30. My team gets requests from business side, and implements them. Sometimes, we got interesting stuff, we created some awesome libraries that many teams use. But most of time, not interesting at all. I heard some stories about AWS. Is WLB really that bad? Are you really working on interesting stuff? Are you really innovating everyday? I don’t want an easy job. I want to innovate and make interesting products.
Most people would kill for 930 to 430 lol
All my dev friends in amazon quit coz wlb is shit , one of my friends is a PM and he says wlb sucks . My manager is from amazon and he was a manager and said he quit coz of wlb. If work isn’t good then 0 reason to work at amazon
I’m in exact opposite boat. I feel brunt out after 2 yrs at AWS and need a chill job. However, you can get really good work at AWS. Just be ready to put in 50+ hrs.
Also what team you’re in. May I’ll interview with them ;)
Seriously! I’d love 9:30-4:30
9-5 is more common in my org. Code quality is very good in my team because we have an awesome tech lead, but it may not apply to other retail teams. Not sure if you really wanna try retail teams
Some of you who gloat about surviving stack ranking need to realize that all you win is a paycheck. When those few people are thrown out, that means the same amount of work for fewer people to complete. Maybe you bring in somebody new, but then that’s work too. Rinse and repeat next year. Congratulations.
