I am a Michigan resident and find hard to get a package that is above 100k/annum especially coz I am on student visa. While here every other person is posting a package of 200k and having multiple offers in hand. Is it something that I am doing wrong or is it coz of where I live?
Well for one you live Michigan where that 100k will probably go as far as 200k in sf
In Detroit you can buy a house for cheaper than a months rent in SF
Lol
No joke bro. https://www.redfin.com/MI/Detroit/9925-Bishop-St-48224/home/98513261
It is because of where you live mostly. Substituting words like because with coz kind of makes me think your written communication could be a problem, if you don’t have a strong network and employer’s first impression of you is based on written communications to them (filled out job app form, resume, email, etc). Many think their English is good enough, but not being at the same level of language proficiency as the people in the country you work in — regardless of what country that is — will always be a career limiter, has to be said.
Haha that language comment is hilarious. You should see or hear English of some of my colleagues. Don't worry OP, your English is fine
Bro! Do not mess with "Mgmt" of Amazon.
My English might not be as good as the people from this country but it definitely is not bad. And for me substituting words on a platform like this is okay as it is not any kind of official dialogue that we are sharing here but when it comes to being formal or communicating with someone who could be a potential judge of my career path I make sure it is not written or spoken in a casual way. With that being said I am sure I have never made any such mistakes in my resume as well so that can not be counted as a reason of my low TC
Blind is a viable way to find referrals for jobs. Hiring managers connect with people on Blind all the time. I don’t think you have a good excuse for being undisciplined in using proper English. It isn’t just about improper English also. A better message could have been more constructive, explained what makes you qualified to be earning 200K+ so people can give better feedback, asking for referrals... And you aren’t taking any feedback at all kid. In your run-on sentence, you say you are sure you are making no mistakes. Do you think winning a chess game is only about avoiding mistakes? You have to discover brilliancies to win when you are competing at high levels. I promise your communication is a factor here.
Duly noted.
Ppl in here exagerate their salaries. They make good money but inflate the numbers to satisfy their egos
No doubt that happens time to time. But I’ve managed over two dozen people at Amazon and the TC numbers cited by Amazonians are completely real. And we are known to pay shit, like a third tier toilet, compared to Google or Facebook. We are in a wage bubble due to the high RSU appreciation from the historic bull run. The numbers are crazy, and it may not last, but the numbers are true.
The reason is extremely simple. (Source: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+States&country2=United+States&city1=Detroit%2C+MI&city2=San+Francisco%2C+CA )
How do you sleepsmart?
By putting away the phone while sleeping whihch I never do
Location, opportunities, demand vs supply and cost of living. Have you heard of the ''it's all relative theory''?
It’s cause you’re in Michigan
