How is texas for an immigrant

I’ve been wondering, how is Texas compared to California for an immigrant? I don’t know if it’s true or not but I’ve heard people have been discriminated more. Is that true?

Austin is very blue. You’ll be fine.

Plenty of Asians in suburban Dallas and Houston. Rest of the state not so much (but that goes for California too).

It's a red state with red leadership. "Safe" blue cities will only get you so far.

Discrimination in TX is usually not overt. Austin is as neutral and open as it gets. Dallas is the worst- it’s more socially segregating than most as you move away from city center. Networking is tricky split between native cronyism and transplants so there are plenty of people facing the same experience as you. Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the country and Chockfull of international transplants. everybody racially and socioeconomically has to co-exist because of no zoning. With that said, everyone interacts with each other in all social settings like bars and restaurants. It’s only when you start dating and meeting new acquaintances outside your race when you find that there are those still closed off in terms of deeper affiliations and judgements, but there are so many people that groups of each kind can easily become tribal and consume who you interact with.

As others have mentioned, it depends on where you live. Austin is a hippy mecca (I mean that as a compliment). Dallas, in my opinion, is more cosmopolitan but still very blue. If you live in sort of a crescent shape north and east of Dallas you'll find a whole bunch of transplants--especially around the Plano area. Lots of tech and very diverse. Once you venture out in to the more rural areas you'll start to see small minded rednecks...

You're fine in the cities. Austin is great, Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the county. SA too, Dallas mostly good. Just don't move to towns like Lubbock.

Huston is the worst racist cesspool I've seen in my time in US. The only place where I saw a white guy yell at a black service worker that they are a lazy n***r. Indians were called "pakis". Multiple people in pickup trucks were pissed at me for riding a bike even though I wasn't in their way. Most of the people I met there were just plain dumb

Houston is like any large metropolitan city such as there are more of all types of people.

If you’re Asian, it’s much better than CA. At least no one will stereotype you as privileged class.

Asians arent privileged 😂 ... im middle eastern

General Motors okiN15 Feb 3, 2018

Yes, you will be fine. Austin has a decent size Middle Eastern population. Many of my neighbors have immigrated from Middle East, Asia, Latin America.

Latin Americans have a less than satisfactory experience in Texas. Some people assume all are recent immigrants and if your English is weak they assume you are or were illegal an alien. People sometimes still ask me when did I become a citizen. I was born here.
