How is the Facebook shuttle?

I’m thinking of leaving an SF walking commute for a shuttle commute to FB. Leaving Van Ness/Union. I’ve never commuted so I’m curious: how is the shuttle journey? Can you get work done? Overall trying to figure out how unpleasant it is, and how much it should discourage me from taking an otherwise attractive job.

My commute on the shuttle is about an hour. I am able to work done.

Nice. You must pick it up towards the mission? An hour seems doable. I’m worried about 90 min + thx!

I get on Van Ness and only 70mins but I leave early

Work in the morning, nap in the afternoon (or the opposite)

The shuttles are great and very extensive. There is definitely wifi, and the shuttles to go home start around 330. If your team is laid back, you can still have a reasonable work day even with the commute.

Have you tried working on a shuttle before? Some people do it, but personally I can't look at a phone/laptop for more than a couple minutes without getting nauseous on a moving vehicle. The shuttles are great though. Luxurious seating with wifi.

I usually listen to audiobooks on the shuffle. It’s 1.5-2 hours of books every single day! Otherwise, shuttles are pretty convenient. If you go to work late and leave late, the commute time is often shorter

It’s not great. Fucking hated it the first year. But it’s definitely by far the most comfortable form of transportation I’ve ever been on. Nicer than any bus or train I’ve ever been on - including Japan. Incomparably more comfortable than a car. It’s actually annoying when a shuttle is canceled and you have to Uber to work (which is reimbursed) since the shuttle is way more comfortable.

"Incomparably more comfortable than a car" - that's a little extreme.

Just a comment on commute in general, it's a royal pita. Don't throw away a short walk for 2 hours of your day on the road unless the other factors are crazy good eg 50% better comp. Good luck

The commute is rough.

The commute sucks. It gets really old, really fast. However, of you're going to commute, the shuttle is pretty much as good as it gets.

Fuck, that sucks. Though I expected it.. I’m about to start work with a shuttle commute. Had a good 5 year run walking downtown through nice parts of SF. Will miss that for sure. Loved starting my day with a 30 min walk...but it’s the right career move and maybe I’ll convince my wife to move to peninsula...

How’s it going so far? Did you eventually move or still commuting? I’m in the same position as you.
