And is it the sum of citations for all the publications combined? I have around 8 papers that are accepted. 7 publications so far (Excluding those 8) with about 60 citattions. I am wondering because I only have two more H-1B tries and wondering if I could consider moving to EB1 category. Not that it matters, because I am an Indian, but at least hoping to move to academia. I would have to leave country if I don’t get H-1B. TC: 260k YoE: 2.5
I have 220 and lawyer said let’s do EB2 but I am not from India or China

So you will have a total of 15 publications soon? How many are journal articles and how many are conference papers?
What is your current visa status? You can also try applying for O1.
Currently on F-1 OPT. What are the qualifications needed for O1? I feel helpless with the current immigration system. Have done schooling in one of the top 4 CS schools and got publications in good conferences. Would Amazon send me to Canada in case I do not get H-1B?
I know a friend who got approval with 20 citations. And I also know folks who got rejected having 300-400 citations. It’s all how your lawyers package and present your case to USCIS. Anyways even EB1 is screwed now. So your hard work doesn’t count for anything sadly
Do you know any good companies in Canada? I am considering moving to Canada or switching to Academia.
If you plan to move to academia, why not do it right now?
Getting in an opportunity as assistant professor is tough. Few positions in academia. Thinking about PostDoc at the worst case scenario. Talking to few professors as well. A friend of mine from school had to move to NYU Abu Dhabi because of the same reason. We both went to top CS schools.
I was in your position last year although in a non cs PhD. I talked to people and carefully assessed my risks vs priorities and I decided to move to industry. Below is my thinking. Maybe it’s helpful to you too. Risks of academia: 1) Have to be postdocing for 5-6 years and even then permanent position at R1 university is not guaranteed 2) I will have very little flexibility on where I can work. After 5-6 years of postdoc, I will be desperate to just get a position anywhere they offer me. 3) Cannot apply through EB1B in my postdoc. 4) Every time one postdoc ends, I will need to find a new one and relocate. 5) Low TC as postdoc. You won’t have any savings by the end of postdoc. Forget starting a family. 6) tenure process is brutal and people do burn out and quit 7) this one is quite important: decision to do postdoc is almost irreversible. Companies won’t be willing to file for H1B lottery since your OPT will have run out and you will only have one chance at lottery. Pros of academia: 1) cutting edge research 2) working for the greater good 3) chill life after tenure
PhD is required now a days. EB1 strictly scrutinized.
Have a PhD from a top CS school.
I think it strongly depends on the field.
PhD in ML.
Every tdh nowadays has a PhD in ML. What makes you different ?
I am surprised no one has made a distinction between EB1A and EB1B. EB1A is extremely difficult to be approved these days, the adjudication is very tough. However, EB1B is comparatively way easier. If your company is ready to file it for you, chances are quite ok with even 60 citations. Not easy but doable.
Do u need a phd for these visas or citations are sufficient?
@Amazon - what happened in these 3 years?!

I got approved with ~100 citations + some media coverage.
How many publication? I am at 60 citations. Have few more papers about to get published at conferences. Could you define media coverage? Also do they consider the impact factor for conferences when considering the citations? I have published in some of the tier 1 conferences.
How many publications of yours are first author?
