Yes, mostly cross-country (to move for work) but a couple others for leisure, the latter of which included Oahu. I loved it! Pros: Do what you want; operate on your own schedule. Save money, as you are only traveling for one. Cons: As a woman, I was limited by how late I’d stay out - for fear of being victimized - particularly, avoiding having a drink. Also, when I was in Hawaii on a couple of tours, seeing a beautiful sunset or sunset was breathtaking but it would’ve been nice to share that with someone.

been to vancouver boston dc chicago pros you do whatever you want easier to get seated in restaurants as a solo diner neutral splitting costs is nice but having more than one person raises them cons sometimes it would be nice to have someone with you it can get lonely towards the end of the trip. the longest i’ve done is 5 days.

Did a solo 3-week EU backpack trip. Pros: soul-searching experience, you naturally begin to strike up conversations with strangers and make friends, meet other solo travelers, do whatever you want. Cons: not being able to nostalgically reminisce with another person the sweet memories. You start to wonder if parts of it even happened without someone to discuss the experience with.

But you can also embellish your stories all you want and no one will be able to "correct" you

Only a truly special kind of dumbass would take advantage of that

I went from the US to Hong Kong alone when my buddy backed out. Pros: You can do whatever you want and go wherever. There is no one to ask for permission. If you just feel like chilling somewhere and relaxing it’s all good. I also went on an Asian date site before I went and met a few ladies to take me around. They were really cool to hang out with. Cons: I didn’t know Hong Kong was one big brothel which I’m not into. It was hard to meet a lady and chat or see where it goes when I kept meeting working girls. It got lonely after a while.

Morocco and Portugal Pros: the trip is your own. You decide what to do and where to go. Also, its a lot easier to make friends when you are alone. Cons: get an understanding of the language landscape. Moroccans speak french, arabic and spanish... but not portuguese. Would have been a lot better if I went with someone who was fluent in either. But got lucky and made a french friend out there.

Chile and Bolivia Pros: do what you want, really can pay more attention on what’s going on around you, the people, the environment. Easier to make Friends with locals and other travellers. Cons: eating alone

USA, Spain , South East Asia all solo. Pros: Did what I want, always booked stuff last minute, stayed at cheap places, ate whenever I want without a cranky partner, really got to know locals and other travelers, partied hard, slept late, woke up early. Basically a lot of flexibility to follow your whims. You're also able to melt/mix more into the country you're visiting since there's no companion from your home country to remind you of who really are back home (which is great if it makes sense) Cons: Eating & drinking alone sometimes can suck and at some point loneliness hits hard but it washes away pretty quickly in a day. Usually going to a hostel or bar and meeting folks makes stuff better right away. I learnt to talk to strangers while travelling alone and it's one of the best habits I picked up.
