I heard a lot of failures due to culture fit. It seems that candidates must love traveling and using Airbnb
If that's enough to disqualify you then I can't see why you'd want to work there. Honestly company cultures that are that cult-like creep me out.
You should at least try to use the product and know what it offers. It may be possible if your technical skills really match with one of the projects and impress the interviewers. If you just apply as a general hire, your chance is slim. Not that it’s a cult like culture, it just seems ingenuine for someone who never use the product to talk about believing in its mission or future.
Not all engineers have opportunities to travel and use Airbnb. It’s much less frequently needed than Amazon, Uber etc. Especially other family members may prefer living in hotels for vacations. I am not arguing. Just think it shouldn’t be a hard requirement for engineers.
It’s not. Matter of fact when I got my offer, I have not booked a trip on Airbnb. But you should know what the side does, and how to use it. it’s fair for any company to ask candidate the question “why do you want to join”. Just make sure you have a solid reason.
The culture interview is basically how some dude is feeling today, I aced the tech interviews but got rejected, the guy just didn't like me
I had never used Airbnb until I used it for my on site interview (I was relocating). Core values interviews are basically just an asshole filter.
I'm trying to land an interview with Airbnb recently. Is there a chance to get one just via web application or shall I find a way to get internal referral?
The culture fit interviews have nothing to do with traveling or using airbnb. It’s about making sure you have good values in general and that you’ll be pleasant to work with.
