I’m sure this number is variable based on conversations with their VCs, but wanted to get some benchmark numbers.. looking through some of their profiles, it seems like they are also able to angel invest in many companies, which made me curious. Tagging Google, FB, and Stripe bec they have more alumni who have gone on to be founders.
Standard is $120k
My founders (at a previous company) supposedly paid them selves like 60k in the Bay Area
Low pay for founders is the rule as you have significant equity. $120k is about right. Investors frown on more typically but they also want you to be able to pay your bills. If you have a case that you need more to pay your basic bills like housing costs, they will usually allow it. However it’s not a case where you’ll get more salary because you want more.
When I interviewed at Palantir ~10yrs ago. They made an offer to me of $120k. I said it wasn't enough & I had a competing offer. Their response was that 120k salary was the max they could do, because that's what the CEO was getting paid. I took the competing offer.
200k is min these days.
