Any idea about how much Google pays in Sydney?
For tech you probably want to be in Sydney or Melbourne. Melbourne has cheaper property prices and more of an arts and cafe culture but terrible weather (subjective depending on where you're coming from though I guess). Sydney has beaches and better weather but you'll pay a bit more to live in Sydney.
Is it much worse than Northern California? Looking at temperatures now both cities look quite ok.
I don't know Northern California that well as I only travel for a week here and there. Melbourne can get blistering hot in summer, and very cold (and windy!!) in winter. Melbourne is also known for having all the seasons in a single day. Sydney's weather has become a little less predictable in more recent years but tends to have mostly good weather year round with fairly comfortable temperatures. The big storms usually pass north (Newcastle and the Central Coast) and south (Wollongong and the Illawarra) of Sydney. Look at the year round weather. Right now it is spring so very pleasant in both cities.

Google is out sourcing jobs out of US
Doesn't pay much. The highest you can get is as a contractor. You can get around AUD900 per day. Contractors can buy cars and tech gadgets tax free. That's how you get more bang for your buck Full time employment, max would be around 150k AUD per year. That would be 8.3k AUD. It sucks i know
900 AUD what? Per month? 🤔 Oh I see, thanks!
I'm planning on seeking permanent residence there, so would love to be a full time, not a contractor. Sick of it to be honest..
