I have no reason to think there would be any retaliation to prevent me from receiving my shares. But not sure if I should work an extra 2 weeks to avoid the risk or if there's no real risk in giving notice two weeks before my cliff
You don't even want to stay at Pinterest for 2 more weeks? Is it that bad?
Why would you risk a presumably significant amount of money to save 2 weeks of time? If someone high up doesn’t look like it’ll only take HR a week to prepare a case to fire you.
Expected value, since those 2 weeks matter to me and I really don't think it's in the culture for them to do that
You could be walked out and lose your unvested stock.
Only if you're fired. If you're walked out then they have to pay you for the notice period. Firing is riskier for a big company, so almost no one does it.
Why take the risk?
Take 2 weeks off for labor stress and get done with it
Why take the risk ?
You can be walked out same day. Just put up with it and get to your vesting date before giving notice.
For these short term decisions, never give power to your company; too many folks involved in decision making, and anyone of those people could be petty, thoughtless or downright moron. I learned it the hard way, when I informed my employer 2 days earlier than I should have and lost a couple of months of salary and benefits because some bright HR accountant tried to save... less than $900. I had excellent relationship of 5 years with my bosses and the company in general. They kept trying to hire me back for the next one year, but that hasty dismissal left a bad taste in the mouth, and I did not go back. Do pros & cons of pulling the trigger 2 weeks eatly, and unless you have something significant to gain while incurring a total loss of vesting etc., don't inform your emoloyer.
Which company or which city? It’s rare SV tech companies do that; you’re killer not in a real tech company outside of SV?
Why would you take the risk? Not at all worth it. It’s only two more weeks...
You should check your contract. It may include wording to suggest that continued employment is assumed upon vesting. In which case, it would not be retaliation but simply the company process to not give shares once the notice is given. Our company does this for ABP.
