I’m a level 4 software engineer at Amazon and I think I’ll be piped soon. I’m pretty miserable at the company but I don’t want to quit since I’ve heard amazon gives 3 months salary as severance. However I can’t find any hard information on this. Does anyone know what amazon offers for severance for level 4 engineers? It would make planning for my unemployment easier so I appreciate any insights anyone has. #amazon #pip #amazoncompensation #severance #layoff
You are based out of which location ?
Seattle
????
Wtf does that have to do with anything?
I think you’ll be looking at 30k, from what I’ve seen from a previous L4 that was PIPd. Pretax of course, so try to get it in 2021
Thanks man, that’s what I’ve heard as well. I just wanted to make sure
Thanks for the 2021 heads up I didn’t think of that
<15k. L4 and got pip'd last month. 1.5 yrs at AWS and took sev.
Thanks for the info, hope things are going well for you now. Is the 15k after tax for you?
What is the reason for pip? 10 months seem too early
I’m the rare person that’s great at leetcode/interviewing but sucks at actual corporate coding. I’ve got this thing going that I call failing upwards. So far every time I’ve had to find a new job I end up with a 30% raise after only a year of work. It’s stressful to be constantly job hopping but it’s actually been surprising great for my career.
Sorry to hear about your work experiences, but you seem to have the right attitude to make the most out of the situation. Hopefully the next gig will be a better match!
I was L5 for more than 3 years with a base of 165 and I only got a 36k pretax severance offer (the max severance with no plan). I don't think you'll get 30.
Thanks for the info. I’m hoping for 20k but if it comes in less than 10 then I’ll just take the pip and collect a few more paychecks
I thought pip at amazon gets you 9 weeks severance if you take it. Since you are at 10 months ask hr if you can get your 1st year vest of stock too (since it would fall under 9 weeks) i saw someone get them to agree to that before
Thanks, I wouldn’t have thought of that. Might get my 1 stock vest now
Op you are killing it. Just make sure that you don't do so many switches in your career going forward. As people may start seeing you as a job hopper and this will bite you as you apply for Sr roles. Even if you are not very good at Corpo BS true to cruise or brown nose as much as possible. You never know you may find a team that just keeps you on some bug fixes or maintanece jobs. However getting a 30% hike from AMZN into a coast job might only be possible at GOOG or MSFT. Everywhere else it would be slog and lot of coding and design straight 8 hrs at least to justify the TC. But perhaps if you want to just chill try ATT, Salesforce, ORCL maybe! Others can chime but salary may not be rocket though. Best wishes!
Thanks appreciate the support. I know I’m lucky to be in this position and have been saving most of my money to do FIRE. I already have reacchouts from companies on linked in offering 30% more than I’m getting now. I figure based on current calculation I only need on or two more Job hops to finally be financially independent
Tc? Curious about the entry level hopping
Started at 60k, second job was 100k, 3rd job was 130k, currently making 160k, and already have linked in reach outs for 200k+
Never spent more than 18 months at a job. Lowest was 3 months
Severance depends on your tenure at Amazon. How long have you been working there?
10 months now
For 10months, I don't think you will get 3 months severance. I could be wrong though.
