I’m from the midwest with only 1 YOE. Got a job offer in SF and given TC of 105k. Please bare with me since I’ve lived in a low CoL city all my life but would that TC be enough to get afford me a newerish 1BR apartment? Where I’m from, I only spent 25% of my monthly income on rent and was able to afford a more luxury apartment but I’m not sure if that will still be able to apply in SF even with the salary bump
That’s a low TC. At least 150k at your level.
Would it matter if it’s a Jr level developer position? I transitioned to SWE from Data analyst about 6 months in as a self taught :/
Employee should be paid as per the market rate and cost of living. Exceptions could be there. You can share a 2 BR if not married or live outside the city in suburbs
Lowest 1br you could find will be 2600 these are rare to find but come up if you wait for a couple of months and are aggressive in looking for them .You could find non community aka non Avalon , privately owned condos for 3.2-3.5k , still only a few available . Keep looking on Craigslist Zillow and be careful about people saying they want a deposit even before letting you see the place
With that TC you will spend 50% of your monthly income in 1BR apartment if not sharing.
You can get one of those BMR apartment (below market rate).
I would look to live in Oakland and take BART. Also something that is somewhat accepted in the Bay Area is sharing rooms. That’s a completely foreign concept to people in most areas in the US
That’s a very very low TC. Ask for more.
You will want a roommate or few
You're living below poverty in the US. I hope you didn't immigrate to live in a dump.
Anything below 120k is considered poverty line in SF (for a family). If you have a luxury apartment where you are now, don't move.
You’ll have to look online for places. Chances are you’ll have to live an hour away from work to find reasonable rent (sub $2,500/mo). Welcome to the left coast and San Francisco. Watch out for poop on the sidewalks.

Go woke, go broke: Google fires 28 employees involved in pro-Hamas protest
No, one bedrooms in the city are at least 3k.
Welp good to know!
3k will get you a tiny dump most of the time unless you find something rent controlled through word of mouth. Anything 1 br that is livable will be at least 3.6k up to 4.5k.
